What Taskeen does

Taskeen serves the communities of the Karakoram in Nagar Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan — one of the most remote regions of northern Pakistan, where the nearest well-equipped hospital is a two-hour journey away. Since 2022, our work has rested on two commitments: health and education. Through our free medicine programme, we provide prescribed medicines at no cost to patients who cannot afford them, working in partnership with government hospitals and Medical Officers at the Hoper Valley health dispensary and the SAS Valley civil hospital in Askurdas — together serving five townships and over 1,700 patient visits to date. And at Sunrise Public School in Nagar Khaas, we are building a computer lab to bring digital learning to children who would otherwise grow up without it, with the building and furniture already complete through the community’s own hands.

Because in Nagar Valley, a few hundred rupees decide whether a grandmother takes her blood pressure medicine this month, and a single room of computers decides whether a child’s education ends at the valley’s edge. Taskeen is not a distant charity — it is the community serving itself, with every patient logged, every medicine accounted for, and every rupee traceable to a person helped. Most of our patients are women and children; many return month after month for the chronic conditions that mountain life brings, which is why sustained support matters more than any one-time gift.
